U.S.–China Trade Talks Extend in London
The trade talks between the United States and China have been extended in London bringing hope that the two countries are making progress. The meetings were first planned for just two days but both sides decided to keep talking because things were going well.
This time the talks are happening in London instead of in China or the U.S. which makes it a neutral and new place for the discussions. The extra time shows that both sides want to solve important problems like taxes on goods (called tariffs), rules about inventions and how technology is shared.
American leaders said the talks were “productive” and Chinese leaders said they saw “positive steps”. But both sides agree that there are still big problems they need to fix. One important topic is China’s offer to buy more American products. The U.S. thinks this will help fix the trade gap between the two countries. In return China wants the U.S. to lower the taxes on its products and treat its tech companies fairly.
The stock market went up a little because people are hopeful that a deal might happen. Experts say that even though a full agreement may take more time the London meetings are a good sign. Many big companies around the world are watching these talks closely because the trade fight has caused problems and confusion for businesses.
As the meetings go on this week many people are hoping that this effort in London will help build a better and more stable trade relationship between the U.S. and China.
