Pope Leo XIV Begins Papacy with Historic Pilgrimage

Pope Leo XIV started his time as the new leader of the Catholic Church with a special and meaningful journey. He went on a pilgrimage to three holy places Jerusalem, Assisi and Rome to show his hope for peace, faith and unity around the world. This is the first time in more than 100 years that a pope has begun his leadership with such a trip.

In Jerusalem many people watched as the pope prayed at a very important church asking God to bring peace to places that are suffering from war. He also visited the town of Assisi where he spoke about living a simple life, helping others and taking care of the Earth.

During his journey Pope Leo XIV met with leaders from other religions like Jewish, Muslim and Orthodox faiths to promote friendship and respect. People see this trip as a sign that the pope wants to lead with kindness, love and good changes for everyone.
