Massive Power Outage in Iberia
A big power outage has happened in the Iberian Peninsula which includes Spain and Portugal. This means many people have no electricity. The power went out suddenly early in the morning and millions of homes and buildings went dark. Big cities like Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona and Porto were all affected. Buses, trains and other public transport stopped working and daily life was interrupted.
No one is sure yet what caused the power outage but early reports say there may be a problem with the main power lines. Emergency workers quickly went out to help hospitals, traffic lights and other important places. Some airports had to close for a while which delayed many flights.
Electricity companies are trying hard to fix the problem but it may take hours before power comes back everywhere. Many schools, offices and shops are closed today. People are posting pictures and stories online to show what’s happening in their cities.
Leaders have asked people to stay calm and save battery power on their phones. Generators are being used to give power to places that need it most. This big blackout is making people worry about how safe and strong the power system really is. Experts say that if this keeps going then it might also hurt the economy.
The European Union is offering help and nearby countries are paying close attention. This is one of the biggest power problems ever in Iberia and shows how much we all depend on electricity in our daily lives.
